What is the difference between the available VPN Protocols?

VyprVPN supports multiple VPN protocols to ensure compatibility across a wide range of devices and operating systems. VyprVPN currently supports the following protocols:

• WireGuard®

  WireGuard® is the next-generation, open-source VPN protocol that promises to meet the needs of users who desire the highest level of privacy, security and speed. 
  

• OpenVPN^™

  OpenVPN^™ is the recommended protocol for desktops including Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. Highest performance - fast, secure and reliable.

• Chameleon^™ 

  Our Chameleon™ technology uses the unmodified OpenVPN 256-bit protocol and scrambles the metadata to prevent DPI, VPN blocking and throttling.

• PPTP

  PPTP is a fast, easy-to-use protocol with a simple setup process. It is a good choice if OpenVPN^™ isn't supported by your device. (Support for PPTP is deprecated. It will likely still work in many cases, but our ability to assist with PPTP connection issues is extremely limited)

• L2TP/IPsec

  L2TP/IPsec is a protocol built into most desktop, phone, and tablet devices. We support both L2TP and IKEv2 for IPSec on select platforms providing the highest performance - fast, secure, and reliable. It is a good choice if OpenVPN^™ isn't supported by your device and security is a top priority.
