Private DNS is a relatively new feature available in the network settings on Android 9 and above. Private DNS encrypts DNS queries, keeping them private. Although we think Private DNS is a great feature, we recommend leaving it disabled when using VyprVPN - when Private DNS is enabled, the private DNS settings will override VyprVPN, and will likely prevent your VyprVPN connection from working properly. You can find instructions to enable or disable Private DNS here.
VyprVPN will, by default, keep your connection fully secure by using VyprDNS. To check that VyprDNS is enabled on your Android device, use the instructions below:
- Select Customize at the bottom left of the VyprVPN app
- In the Customize menu, look for DNS. If it is set to VyprDNS, then VyprDNS will show directly underneath DNS. If it shows 3rd Party DNS, then select DNS to change to VyprDNS
- In the DNS menu, ensure that it is set to VyprDNS, and then select Apply at the bottom
